Dear All,

Future India Team arranged “Talent Recognition Program” for students from government schools in Kolar District, Karnataka. We focused on Quiz and Drawing Competition. There are 150 students participated from more than 100 government schools in Kolar District. Total 120 students participated in Quiz Competition and 30 students participated in Drawing Competition.

Future India Team and Samsung Seva Team put their best efforts to make all arrangements. We had series of discussion with Mr.Veeranna Gowda sir to get the details of students and chosen gift items for the students. Ranadheer and Naresh spent their whole day in Chipset Market, Bangalore to select best gifts for all participants and winners. Finally, they brought school bags for all prize winners along with water bottle and hotpack. Based on suggestion from Mr. Veeranna Gowda Sir, we decided to distribute English-English-Kannada dictionaries for all participants and winners.

Samsung Seva Team put their best efforts to design trophies and medals for all prize winners. They had done great job.

Group of teachers designed question paper and conducted written test for all 120 students. They shortlisted 10 teams with 3 students per team. There are total 7-8 rounds – science, maths, English, General Knowledge, History and Sports. It was very interesting to see the talents from students and their active participation. Finally, we were able to select top 3 teams as winners.

Drawing Competition :

We distributed drawing sheets, crayons, erasers and pencils. There is no specific theme , but asked everyone to go with their own creativity. We could find many smart artists from 30 participants. It was nice to see some of the students accompanied by their parents for encouragement. Finally, we had tough time to select top 5 drawings.

We distributed English-English-Kannada dictionaries and participation certificates to all 150 participants. Distributed gifts to all prize winners. Congratulated all prize winners with trophies and medals.

Drawing competition at JEEVITHA ANATHASHRAMA, Bangalore

Dear All,

We felt very proud of Mrs. Vijaya, Mrs. Mary Joseph and the rest of the team at JEEVITHA ANATHASHRAMA after hearing the story behind their initiative and their dedication to provide life and education for 42 orphan children.

Mrs. Vijaya and Mrs. Mary Joseph have been successfully running this orphanage for the past 8 years. It is a registered organization which is mainly dependent on donations from people in the neighborhood. . They go door to door to collect donations to manage their monthly expenses. Infact we came to know about this orphanage, when one of their volunteers knocked on the door of one of our colleague’s who is living in the locality, asking for donation.

We (Future India Trust and SISO SEVA Team) conducted a DRAWING Competition for all the kids at Jeevitha Ananthashrama last week (26th November 2010) to coincide with our first year anniversary and distributed prizes and goodies for all of them. It was really a great experience to see the talent and the enthusiasm of the kids coming out through their performance. Thanks to the SISO SEVA Team for their efforts in making this event happen!

Here are some more details we gathered about the orphanage and their expenses.

They need around Rs. 50,000 monthly to run this orphanage. This includes Rs. 11,000 for rent (they have two buildings and are paying Rs. 6000 and Rs. 5500 as rent for both buildings respectively)

Paying monthly rent on time is one of their major concerns. Other significant monthly expenses are groceries – they need 75 kg rice, vegetables, milk, drinking water and other groceries every month. They also need to buy 6 cooking gas cylinders every month.

They have employed 4 staff members for cooking, washing and cleaning and their salary comes to Rs. 4000 per month (Rs.1000 per month for each person).

The best part is that all 42 children are going to school. They are studying at St. Theresa Higher Primary School and St. Antony High School, Bangalore. The total expense for education is about Rs. 2 lakh per year.

We are looking forward to supporting Jeevitha on the education front and are currently looking at paying the Rs 19000 that is due from the annual school fees for the children. Pls get in touch with us if you would like to contribute to Jeevitha Orphanage through Future India.
